Adventurers

After another night’s rest the party roped down into the spider lair until they came to the last spot their hadn’t searched: the makeshift barricade. Warily dismantling it, they found a small cavern with three elven corpses and a large scrunched-up sheet which, when unfolded, appeared to have been magically storing several slabs with magical webs already transferred upon them. Burning their way through the web covering a hole above them, they hoisted the bodies and slabs back up the chute to the surface, and then set off back through the forest towards the Tower of Sylaire.

On their way they came across a lone individual, lute hanging beneath his arm, strolling nonchalantly along. He introduced himself as Gerard de l’Automne, a wandering bard seeking exciting stories to unleash upon an adoring, magic-fearing public. The adventurers wove him a tall tale about their experiences facing Malachie in the Sunken Temple, taking care to omit their part in the genesis of the blooming desert, and declined the offer of company from this strange fellow who appeared unafraid of walking the forest paths alone.

The elves accepted the magical webbed slabs and their dead, and fulfilled their end of the bargain: Konrad arose, retaining his dwarven form. Now the party set about pondering their next move, considering the watery grottoes to be too dangerous but lacking any leads for the magical ring or potion they needed to find. Realising that their source of spellcasters would be limited if they looked for retainers in the human settlements, Harlin pleaded with the elves of Sylaire for any rejects or outcasts the tower might be sheltering who could do with some adventuring, and managed to acquire the services of Beerdale, Sylaire’s archivist’s no-good nephew.

The party then made their way hastily towards Ximes to deposit treasure and root around for information regarding the town of Perigon, which they believed relevant to their search for the Ring of Eibon. They got some general details about its government and status, and learned that it had been suffering from regular monsters incursions with beasts regularly finding their way over the palisade walls. The group also took in some local gossip detailing a haunted villa upriver. Hoping that this might provide some experience for their fresher colleagues, the elf Tyrion and cleric Rafin, they collected their weapons from the city guards and started walking against the flow of the river.
