Adventurers

Firstleaf and Milo decided upon another run into the gatehouse to pick up the satchel they'd spotted down the well, so they hired Monderia, a snooty magic user whose snobbishness they could look past for the sake of her Sleep spell.

Having reached the surface ruins, the adventurers decided to explore the upstairs area first, believing it to have been only superficially checked before. After falling through the floor of one room and fighting off a small group of ratlings who, attracted by the noise, tried to flank the party. Our heroes' armour and doorway-blocking tactics held firm, though, and they fought off the oversized rodents.

Exploring the other upper room revealed a battered old statue of a woman stood slightly off-centre and, listening carefully, a buzzing coming from somewhere. With Firstleaf tilting the statue with a rope and Milo holding a lit torch to the base, they teased out a swarm of wasps which, fortunately, flew out the window with only the retainer Oro suffering a few uncomfortable but non-lethal stings. Alas, there was nothing of value beneath the statue, but at least the party could cross off the gatehouse's upstairs.

Their journey down to the well they'd found before was undisturbed by any underground denizens, and they carefully snagged it with their grappling hook to find two scrolls: one arcane and the other divine. They had nobody who could understand the former or cast the latter, so they packed them away safely and made their way back to the surface.

On the way they decided to try an unexplored northern corridor and found another statue, this time of a muscular warrior with a flaming eye emblazoned upon his shield. Poking around this statue disturbed another swarm, this time of rats and on this occasion it was Firstleaf who sustained several bites.

After the adventurers had dispatched the rats, the elf started feeling distinctly queasy, but they stuck around to investigate the statue more thoroughly. They were unable to find anything out of the ordinary, however, and their presence attracted the attention of several giant rat-riding ratlings.

The party fled to the way out but were caught in the corridor. They absorbed the charge and, with the aid of Monderia's one and only spell, cut down their assailants. Amongst the bodies they found a particularly nice spear, very well balanced and, while simple in design, elegantly crafted. As they returned to the village, they swung it about and found that its head could clasp onto any surface at the bearer's will. A great find indeed.
