Grand Admiral Tulane wakes up at 1st Bell (Undertow has three bells – Dawn, noon, and Dusk)
Admiral’s berth is in The Albatross, a tiny room that contains a fold up bed, tiny desk. He is served his morning meal by Felix (corporal) who tells him that the Water has risen, slightly. Morning meal is his usual – fillets of smoked fish and a kelp mash.
Bell awakens on a folding cot, covered by a plastic sheet. 7/12 awakens nearby, 7/12 has a worn and molding blanket, traded from the Tower. Ocean skips in with three Gull Eggs, handing one to Bell, one to 7/12, and one for herself. She uses a tiny metal pipe to drink the gull egg, Bell cracks it into his mouth, and 7/12 eats the whole thing, but it is a partially formed embryo, and she crunches on the beak.
Whitmont awakens in her carefully conditioned apartment in the Undertow, walls covered in plastic sheeting, a dehumidifier pulling the moisture out of the air, and purifying it. Her cot and blankets are worn but in decent condition, the climate controls keep the humidity to the minimum. She boils some water and makes a nice kelp broth.
Sam rolls out of her bed and wades through a berth filled with cast aside bottles and trash in the Underwater Habitat - Sam's Refuge She drinks deeply of Kelp Spirits, and Nine watches her while tending the garden.
