Qumado
The Petissei di wer Qumado, sea kobolds, or simply qumado, are a sea-faring race of kobolds that hail from the Churning Archipelago. The kobolds struggled against the tropical conditions to build their civilization for an unknown amount of years and have only recently reached a bronze age level of technology, allowing them to create sturdier ships, to begin thinking about stronger commerce, and perhaps create the first true trading their people do at a large scale with other kobolds or humanoids of the world.
The Qumado tribes are heavily religious, believing the physical elements of the world all have a spiritual component as well, including the sand and sea they are familiar with. Qumado that perish are said to go to a spiritual realm where the fractured kobold people return to, to finally become whole again. They practice a pantheon-worshipping religion called the Way of the Sea that is typically run tribe to tribe by a single assigned extended family deemed 'spiritually rich.' It is rare to find a qumado that does not believe in the spirits or the spirit world, and these individuals are seen as sick or deranged by other sea kobolds. Often these individuals are encouraged to seek shaman counseling, to steer them back on the right track.
Qumado live either in shore-based villages, or in the many colorful reefs found surrounding the islands of the archipelago. Due to their diminutive size and the danger of their environment, their populations are slow to grow, kept at bay by innumerable oceanic predators.
