ValorianSwing is a relatively recent musical style that has swept the west coast of Valtentis and recently penetrated the The Thousand Isles. It varies significantly from the more traditional folk music and large orchestral performances that proceeded it. Generally swing bands are relatively small, composed of 4-8 brass, wood and string musicians and a single singer, though duet numbers are also common. A typical song played in swing style would feature a strong, anchoring rhythm section in support of more loosely-tied woodwind and brass sections playing call-response to each other. The music is often accompanied by vigorous dancing from the audience (also called Swing).
Legend has it that swing was invented by Red Alice during one of her week long binges in Valoria, and that she performed it incognito in Valorian inn's and music houses for a year before getting bored and moving on to her next obsession. Regardless of the truth of those rumors, the music went on without her and and it's associated subculture and slang have taken hold with the underclasses and the cities youth. Valoria has also started exporting the musical style to surronding regions, especially The Thousand Isles where the music can often be heard in the inns and dives of Haven Towne.
