South of Merchants Town you reach South Dock street. Originally, the shore of the bay was only a hundred yards from the south side of Merchant street but over the years this part of the bay was gradually filled in by the various merchant houses until the bay is a half mile distant. The Merchant Houses of Haven own this area and jealously defend their individual docks and piers from interlopers. Proximity to Merchant street is a hotly sought commodity, as the only other option is to bring goods to market is a tortuous wagon journey over the crowded city streets from NorthPort
Each merchant house maintains a walled compound of warehouses, and ship building facilities that control entry to their section of shoreline and dock. A set of canals connect these compounds to Market Street quays.
