This pillared chamber houses a beautiful crypt. The entire room radiates peace and serenity. A tall flame, twice as tall as a man, burns in front of the temple. It has no obvious source of fuel but burns so brightly it's difficult to look at, shifting colors every few seconds.

The doors of the crypt stand open

Plaque

A simple plaque reads "St Ursula of the Hammer, friend and companion of Blessed Mithra"

For the DM

Ursula will manifest when any Pc approaches her crypt or calls her name. Depending on how the party has conducted themselves in the undercroft she will either be supportive or not.

In order to gain her support she will insist on an oath to

  • Defend and restore the Abbey
  • Reestablish the Hammers of Ursula
  • Return the remains of “my child Ava” for proper burial in the Cemetery

If they do this she will grant Sister Clara the Hammer of St Ursula to carry into battle. She will also fully heal them and Bless them. Her blessing will last until thy leave the Abbey. If they party desires to rest at her crypt she will allow this.

In the unlikely and probably fatal event the party ends up in combat with St Ursula she has the stats of a Solar with max hit points and will wield the hammer against them..

The Trial of Compassion

Ursula has been observing each character as they work their way through the The Undercroft. When they reach her tomb she will choose four of them at random and ask them to submit to her trial. If they agree, the trial will begin.

She will take them into her crypt

Resting on the crypt is golden scale

Ursula will look deeply into their eyes and place a feather on one side of the scale

The character will get the sense that their entire life is playing out beneath her gaze

  • The character must provide the best example of where they have exercised great compassion
  • The character must provide the best example of where they have exercised lack of compassion
  • Wherever possible use examples from actual gameplay, failing good examples there, it's acceptable to fall back on backstory examples.
