For over a thousand years Thenes, the immortal known as the God-King has ruled Great Mbo. Over the centuries, his presence has permeated Mboian culture, religion, there is hardly an aspect of daily life that does not reflect him in some way. One of his roles is as an intermediary between the deities and the people. The God-King has been deputized by the deities in a role that is both a civil and religious administrator. The God-King owns all of the land in Egypt, enacts all laws, collects all taxes, and serves as commander-in-chief of the military and chief priest of the Priesthood. Religiously, the king officiates over religious ceremonies (usually in absentee, represented by an idol or image) and choses the sites of new temples.
However his most sacred duty is maintaining Cosmic Trim, or cosmic order, balance, and justice. Mboian religion believes that without constant attention from the God-King, the entire cosmos would collapse into chaos and all life would end.
Despite his ubiquity, few citizens of the Empire know much about him. Locked deep within his vast temple-city of Unknown he rarely emerges into the wider world, relying on his servants and agents to work his will across the vast stretches of the Empire. While he technically officiates at all major religious ceremonies across the continent, he is usually represented by golden effigy's that channel his divine presence thus lending legitimacy to the proceedings.
