Some Notable Laws of Albasa

Below are some of the notable laws of Albasa:

Trials in Albasa are overseen by a judge, appointed by City Hall. There are no juries. You may hire a lawyer to speak to the judge on your behalf.

The death penalty is available at the judges discretion and whilst it is usually reserved for murder, people have been known to hang for far lesser crimes. Executions are carried out in public and draw large crowds.

Guns and other firearms must be licensed by City Hall. Anyone caught carrying a gun without a license is liable to serve prison time. A gun license can be revoked at the judges discretion.

In Albasa City, fire arms must be hidden from view. Drawing a firearm is considered an act of aggression.

Albasa has a first draw law, if someone draws a gun on you, you are within your rights to shoot them in self-defense.

You may challenge someone who offends you to a duel. They then must choose either swords or guns. The first person to draw blood is declared the winner. The bleeding party must then be given the opportunity to apologize for the offense. If they refuse, the duel is fought again, this time to the death. In order for it to be legal there must be two witnesses one representing each side.

In order to vote in Albasa you must be a property owning man over the age of 16.

The only magic allowed by law is that practiced by the hospitals and the Albasa Mint. The Mint uses magic to verify money and make sure it isn’t counterfeit. Each trader must buy a magical till license from City Hall and have a till that can verify whether money is real or fake. There are magic glyphs on the coins and notes that glow when placed in the till.

There are some businesses that operate in a grey area, there are for example fortune tellers all over the city and ghost slappers who deal with spirits and sprites so far they have not been considered to come under that magical ban but that might change.

Acts of magic are something that the police are almost fanatical about. Any reported use of magic will be aggressively investigated.

Almost all intoxicants including alcohol are illegal. They have been for nearly fifty years. They were banned slightly after the fall of the Hoxha regime.

Marriage to multiple partners is allowable for men and women with a maximum of five people in total in any marriage. Sex outside of marriage is illegal.

There used to be hyper violent fighting pits in Albasa. They have been made illegal but have just gone underground and still attract a considerable number of tourists.
