Established 400 years ago in the aftermath of the Tharn Plague. The plague which seemed to be attracted to and fed by magical energies led to the death of most magic users and a ban on magic across most of the known world. Early on in the plague a group of magic users from different traditions got together and decided that their magical knowledge was too valuable to be lost - a group of them took a vast library of books and headed off into the mountains. There they sat out the plague.
There name comes from the theological sleight of hand that allowed the worshippers of Modella to take part in a joint enterprise with goblins who practiced Shamlock and other races that practiced the Religion of Tee-hi.
In the story of Modella he slays the demon Sigrath and in doing so the demons blood sprays over humanity infecting them with evil. Modella then slays the other gods who have grown decident. The members of the order who practiced the Religion of Modella needed to find a way they could accept these worshippers of other gods and ideas. They posed the question what if there was a second blood rain when Modella slayed the gods and what if there divine essence had been sprayed across the earth just like the essence of Sigrath was. Could they then say that this is what these mages with other deities had discovered - the essence of the old gods. Had they with their worship brought these beings back to life? This theological position allowed them to work with the other faiths and found the order.
Today they are still the keepers of this knowledge. They are always looking for those with innate magic abilities to join their secret order. In exchange for knowledge initiates become collectors and custodians of lost magical items.
The group claims to have no political aims beyond the safeguarding of these ancient secrets.
