The plan, while theoretically solid, was always considered a long shot by those who participated in it. The primary goal was to slow down the Elleseandi forces in order to grant Tanzians more time to evacuate; in a way, this goal was met.
The execution of the plan, however, failed, due to several factors:
- The Elleseandis outnumbered the Val Tanza defenders 2:1, which allowed them to 'break' the trap that was set for them with sheer strength.
- A new form of arcane artillery was deployed, allowing the Elleseandis to strike anywhere on the battlefield.
- The circling maneuver by Cassandra through the forest proved too slow; the Elleseandis had broken the lines before Cassandra could get in position, leading to Cassandra having to attack early and later break off her attempt entirely.
