The Hornguard

Port Sena

The Hornguard are the elite defenders of Port Sena, consisting of knights, veterans, and former adventurers. Many of the Hornguard are not native to Port Sena, instead having opted to stay here instead of travel onwards into Aregrionno or the Cradle Bay.

Their name stems from the ox horns that are distributed in the city and nearby countryside. When in danger, one is to blow on these horns, which is a signal for nearby members of the Hornguard to intervene.

The Hornguard consists of 2 platoons.

The Standers

Port Sena

The Standers, derived from "Those Who Stand Up", are the city's main defense: an army of 4 companies. These troops vary from archers, swordsmen, and spearmen. They are a reservist-based army, with most of its members having normal day jobs.

The Gatesmen

Port Sena

The Gatesmen are those whose job it is to watch the city's two main gates; the Northern Gate in the Saltworks, and the Southern Gate in the Mezzi District. Due to the importance of their jobs, their training (and pay) is only second to the Hornguard. There's roughly 2 platoons of Gatesmen.

The Wall Watchers

Port Sena

The Wall Watchers aid the Gatesmen where needed, and are otherwise garrisoned in the city wall towers. Through day and night, pairs of Wall Watchers patrol the city walls, one watcher looking out from the city, and the other looking in. They are generally armed with longbows, spears and axes.

The City Watch

Port Sena

The City Watch keeps the city itself safe - the regular watchmen, constables, and detectives. All are also members of the Standers.
