He was a surrogate father, mentor, and trainer to Lance, who he picked up on one of his deployments.
Following a disastrous ambush, Phakama was called on trial by Shonra, the Legion's commander.
He was killed in a duel by Lance, as the Legion demanded a death for the failed mission. Lance subsequently defected from the Legion.
