History

A blizzard swirls around the rocky mountains of Norfell. Nothing new to the Neanahona clan, one of the few if not only Frost Elf clans of Iralas. Something is new, though, on this particular night: a new Frost Elf will be born. Shae Elamorv went into labor, her screams nothing compared to the brutal blizzard, but the whole clan was there alongside her. Her husband Nov Elamorv was holding her hand tight, making sure that she knew she wasn’t going through this alone. After a long and intense period, Shae gave birth to her first child, she called him Aedan Elamorv.

Aedan’s childhood in Norfell was pretty normal for a Frost Elf. He’d spend most time gathering resources: berries, wood, and sometimes even emptying rabbit traps. Aedan grew up with a loving pair of parents. The rest of the Frost Elf clan also adored having a little one running around and learning the way of the Neanahona. The clan was small, consisting of no more than 16 elves. Aedan was very curious about his race, were they from these lands? Were they even from Iralas?  Nobody ever had an answer to these questions. The only one who seemed to know more was the High Shaman, leader of the Neanahona clan. She was over 350 years old, everyone treated her with respect, and no one dared to doubt her word. No one except Aedan: he wanted to know who his people were and wouldn’t take no for an answer. The High Shaman promised in a strict yet kind way that he would know once he was ready.

The response of the High Shaman would turn someone like Aedan insane, if it wasn’t for a little distraction: he would receive a sister. At the age of 8, his sister Nula was born, which changed everything for Aedan. His curious nature changed, becoming more caring and responsible, one fitting for a big brother. His parents were proud of Aedan, he made sure to share food with his little sister or pack her tightly with blankets for the night.

This calm and quiet way of living continued for several years, until eventually Aedan grew into a well-built 19-year-old Frost Elf, with his little 11-year-old sister at his side. The two were always together, what Nov - Aedan’s father - taught Aedan, Aedan would teach to Nula. Aedan loved being able to care for his little sister. Aedan at this point was a perfect example of the Frost Elves: cold and strong looking, weary of outsiders, but warm and gentle to his loved ones. If only, things would remain this way.

The blizzards in Norfell seemed to be the same as always, Aedan and Nula just came back to camp with some freshly cut wood. The whole clan sat around the giant fire pit, as they would do several times a day when it happened. A loud, thundering sound struck from the sky, and the whole mountain tremored. All eyes of the Neanahona were looking up the mountain peak, as they saw a giant wave of snow and stone crashing down. There was screaming, there was crying. The elves were running around, grabbing their loved ones, trying to escape the inevitable. For Aedan everything seemed to be in slow motion: he looked at Nula, who had shiny tears in her eyes. He looked left, seeing his parents with a desperate look on their faces. He looked right, down, and he noticed a crack in the ground. A crack, caused by the tremor, was big enough for him and Nula to fit in, without hesitation, he jumped clenching onto Nula’s palm. The two fell and continued to fall for a few seconds, before crashing down on a layer of soft snow. There was a cave next to them, and Aedan dashed to it with a crying Nula. A loud noise was heard above them, and part of the avalanche came crashing down.

Aedan managed to calm down Nula, and started on working getting them back to the surface. He used his trusty ice axe to clear the debris and get a way up, once up. He was faced with his new reality. His camp, his home, his everything was gone. A white layer of snow was present, nothing more.

“ATA…..  AMA…..” Aedan cried over the empty white steppes… with no reply.

Eventually, Aedan would go back to Nula, and take her down the mountain, leaving their home behind. Nula was in shock and had no reaction. She just followed her brother around mindlessly. The hike down would take days, draining both of the little frost elves of their stamina. But they made it, eventually, they got down from the highest mountain of Norfell, trying to find a new settlement, trying to get to a safe haven. If only, things were so easy.

They hiked for several days, finding nothing but ice, snow, and mountains. One day, they found a tiny campsite, consisting of a single frost elf: the High Shaman. Aedan was flabbergasted, and didn’t know what he was seeing. How was she down here? How did she survive? Why did she not see this coming? Why did she not protect the clan!? Aedan didn’t have a chance is asking these questions, the High Shaman looked at him, and said what she said once before: you will know, when you’re ready. Aedan wanted to respond, but he didn’t get any time. Hooded figures surrounded the three. They spoke a weird language, which Aedan didn’t understand. The High Shaman looked at them, and responded in the same language. Aedan understood that the hooded figures were after the High Shaman, and that they wanted something with her.

Nula held Aiden’s hand firm, and looked scared, the leader of the hooded figure saw this, and looked threatening at the High Shaman. Within seconds, Nula was being raised in the air by some sinister magic, she looked like she was in pain, her skin being marked by wicked runes. Aedan screamed out loud and tried to charge the leader of the hooded figures, to no avail: he was blasted to the side by some dark magic he did not understand. The High Shaman looked with despair in her eyes at was going on in front of her. “Teptrak Teryat!”she shouted, and unleashed her ancient magic causing the hooded figures to disappear. Nula fell to the ground, the High Shaman looked at her with pain in her eyes. the runes were still in her skin, and she seemed to be unconsciousness.

Aedan, who didn’t seem to understand what was going on at all, hurried to his little sister and asked the High Shaman what happened. She said Nula was cursed by the hooded figures, and that she couldn’t revert is. She would be sealed in a slumber by the runes, until they were broken.  Aedan could just respond with: “why”. why did all of this happen to him, what did Nula and him do to deserve such a fate. The High Shaman carefully said to Aedan what she has been saying all this time, but this time she added something: He would know when he was ready, and he has to be ready for everything that is about to come. he can’t be a child anymore, he needs to find a way to reverse the curse that has been put on Nula, one way or another.

She promised she would keep Nula safe in her little camp here, take care for her. waiting for aedan to come back. Aedan refused, he didn’t want to leave Nula behind, and he wasn’t sure if he could trust the High Shaman anymore. The High Shaman noticed this doubt and touched aedan’s forehead with her thumb, showing aedan a vision. A vision of a gang of adventurers, including aedan. he looked different, weird. he was in a land, full of trees and water surrounded with mist. The High Shaman explained to Aedan that he has to find that land, there he would find an answer for Nula’s curse. Aedan looked at Nula one last time, and gave her a kiss on the forehead followed by Whispering : Prov na vas. He took his stuff, and left his sister and the High Shaman behind.

Aedan walked for days, Trying to find an ocean settlement. He had to get away from Norfell, his home land. While traveling, Aedan noticed there was a voice in his head… his own voice, but weird. Whispering things to him, speaking words, and sometimes abstract thoughts. The voice in his head was Aedan’s only company, and the more he listened to it, the more his mind started to twist and work on a different level. Aedan eventually found a small ocean town with… creatures? They were definitely not elves, no pointy ears, no blue or white tone in their skins. With a minor language barrier Aedan managed to get a boat, a boat which would take him away from Norfell. On the boat he was alone with his thoughts once more, rocking back and forward. How long was he on this boat? Who said that!? THE SUN, AH THE SUN! MIRRORS ARE EVIL. A look started to appear on Aedan’s face, a look of minor madness, as he would soon succumb to this faith.
