The resident Merfolk Matriarch is a freaky woman and in not the ways people think. She's outrageously uptight or religious, what she can do with a mace is terrifying.
Reknown for undersea geysers and lakes so high in salt you can dip into it. Many crushing weights. Before Tritons and Water Genasi creatures used to the depths, great relaxation spot. Devoid of tentacles, there are many.. weirder occurrences. Massage Jellyfish in which it is advised to keep your sessions less than an hour or you will be so numb an cannot move, they will then start devouring anything on you.
Habitable zones - Reef Caverns. While nice and warm for most of the year, do run slightly hot for much of the cold-blooded species. They make do in these smaller hill clusters of caverns that sport an exotic diversity of both warm water & cold water, flora and fauna. Each of these reef caves are said to be a microcosm of an entirely different biome that the seeds have flown through the transitory riverstreams and found root in different caves. The Triton Druids tending to these reefs make a luxurious living bartering and trading the crops and fish from individual caverns with each other and with sailors up top. It is also said with MANY first hand accounts that the Genasi and Tritons are often confused for sensual sirens, for their dishes and drinks are natural aphrodisiacs.
Inhabitable Zones - The Wandering Red Storms. Throughout this Throbbing Sea, below the water's top there are often the swirling setup of red sands masking many dangerous predators. Some Sahuagin bite as well, for Aboleths and other strange creatures use such storms as covers to come out and hunt. Undersea dwellers know to take cover and hole up inside of any close by reef caves, but many a sailors up top are lured in by the plentiful fish up top, only to be trapped in by some of the stalkers below the water. Apparently the tales have spread so far that many sailors of these seas NEED to include women, for many men get abducted - drawn into the water's deep and never seen or heard from again. Strangely enough, women seem to be unaffected by many magical mires that plague the strange undersea storms.
Battlegrounds - Steadfast Ridges. Popular areas which make for the most defensible places for many marine life to prosper. Larger monsters & Dragons use these as Mating Nests. Of course many Triton & Water Genasi end up enacting many territory battles for themselves, their caverns, or larger creatures not wanting to destroy neighboring ecosystems. Many such disputes rarely devolve into open violence, instead eliciting many varying competitions & bounties to claim the right for a season. Many boatloads of male sailors tend to record the breeding months out to the ridges for... material gain - so they can plan expeditions to claim various unique materials, trade, and to come back more satisfied than they left.
