Kaarlo (who prefers to go by Karl) was the son of a fisherman in the south of Montaigne, despite his lowly beginnings he truly believed in Montaigne and as soon as he was old enough he enlisted in the Montaigne military.
Both of his parents were killed early in the war against Castille and his only other relative (his younger sister Colette Armoire) was training as a musketeer. In the military he fought hard and served under general Montegue. He is a veteran of both the Castillian and Ussuran fronts, is a decorated officer and has received a knighthood for his bravery.
Colette Armoire never fought in the wars directly, however, she was a musketeer and so saw her fair share of conflict; during the unrest of the revolution however she left Montaigne and has since moved to Avalon where she has wed a Highland nobleman named Conlin McGregor. Though they haven't seen each other for some years they still keep in touch by letter.
With the war ended Karl has sought employment as a swordsman and his services have been retained by Giles Varonne and Eustacie Varonne to act as a body guard and escort for their daughter, Reinette Varonne].
