Far to the Darkwards of Cunabulum, in the thick pine forests where the Sun barely scrapes above the horizon, and the lizardfolk of Genida dare not brave the bitter cold, are the Suuk Wood Elf Tribes. The Suuk are some of the few Wood Elves in Cunabulum to have never been conquered by the Magnapuri Empire, likely due to the remoteness and harshness of the lands they inhabit, though since the fall of the Empire, a few regions of previously Suuk land have been colonised by the Thakurate of Golvripur.
A hardy but not especially numerous people, the Suuk are largely migratory with the seasons. Each tribe hold a large span of territory within which they live and tend their yak herds, and outside of which they rarely journey or migrate. Entering the territory or home of anyone but a family member or very close friend is considered a grave insult in Suuk culture, and many ritual duels and even wars have been fought between the tribes over such insults. As such, many of the more Darkwards and inland tribes have likely never met a non-Suuk, and are deeply insular because of it. Golvripur's colonisation has been considered a grave transgression, and the Thakurate has had many skirmishes with the tribesman, though the tribes' ferocity and powerful shapeshifting magic has proven ineffective in pitched battle against the invaders' better disciplined and equipped soldiers and more versatile mages.
Like the tribes of Darkwards Balsifir, the Suuk Tribes worship the Cold Gods, though the Suuk have a distinctly different pantheon and tenets. Many Suuk tribes practice ritual sacrifice of the elderly, sick, and weaker children to appease these Gods, usually by ice entombment, a method of sacrifice that freezes the victim within a block of ice, often in the form of a statue. The statues of those who go through this willingly, especially those containing well regarded elders, are venerated with small gifts and offerings place around or on the statue. The Suuk version of the faith also places great import onto yaks as gifts from the Gods, as many of the tribes only survive the harsher times of the year on yak meat and milk, both fresh and fermented in the form of dasmis.
The Suuki language is related to Tondran, and it is likely that before the influence of Magnapur on Tondran the two would have been much more similar, though culturally the Tondran people were more settled before their conquest than the modern migratory Suuk. Dialectically, Suuki varies significantly between the different tribes, with some of the inland Suuki dialects being almost unintelligible to the coastal Suuk. It is primarily a spoken language, with a written form used kept by the Kvod shapeshifters - an ancient order that occupies a position of great honour and influence among the tribes, and often acting as a group to bridge the gap between them. If visiting in the form of a bird or small animal, Kvod are somewhat exempt of the cultural stigma on entering another's territory, so they often act as messengers or diplomats between the different tribes.
