Casia was always on the smaller side for an orc, and also a bit more clever (it seemed likely she had some goblin in her lineage somewhere, but she didn't look like one). As such, she became more of a thinker than a fighter and was on her way to becoming a goblin-tamer until one day, her tribe was attacked.
Their numbers fell drastically but they were scattered around. Casia got separated from her family and spent several days trying to find what was left of them, fearing the worst. In her wanderings, she stumbled upon a farmer and his family. Casia was still young and not as threatening as some of the brawnier folks of her kind, so the farmer took pity on her and brought her home. They urged her to stay for awhile as she recovered from her injuries. Fearing she might be the last of her tribe, Casia agreed to stay until the next Vernale. One day, she defended the farm from some bandits and realized she cared for these humans. Her heart longed to go back to her old life, but she was hesitant to leave these folks behind for search that might lead nowhere.
Soon, "awhile" turned into three years. Casia learned a lot about human ways and human tools and human farming and read a few human books here and there. She even decided she liked cats! Still though, there was something in her heart that kept telling her that she just had to know what happened to her tribe. She saved enough coin to hire a tracker, an Elmani of all things, to see if he could help her find any trace of her family. She could always go back to the farm, but her adoptive human family still wished her farewell with hopes that she'd find her tribe and stay there if it's what she really wanted, but welcomed her to come back to visit any time.
Well, they found the Ashbears! ... Aaaand they ate the Elmani. Woops.
Things were okay for a while. Casia was viewed as a little bit of a weirdo since she'd spent so much time amongst humans, but what was left of her family was glad to have her back. She tried to share her knowledge but sometimes it was an uphill battle... like when the goblins decided that her potato garden was the best place to potty. Her chickens were the most successful endeavor, she just had to protect them from others who liked to bite their heads off and nail them to her door. Despite her oddities, Casia's father ended up finding her a husband. She didn't know him very well, but he was strong and proud.
Only a few days after they were married, Casia's husband told her of some relatives he had in another tribe, and wanted to take her to go meet them. When they were only a few hours out, they spotted some human raiders looking like they were ready for a fight. They turned back to try to warn their tribe, but couldn't outrun the horses, so when they got home, there was already a bloodbath.
A mage killed Casia's parents with his rock magic. Seeing red, Casia grabbed the puny man and threw him against the wall, bashing his head in and killing him instantly. Then she reached for his stupid green gem to smash it and... something happened. Something she most certainly did not want. The gem glowed and suddenly she felt the strength of the earth at her fingertips. She had no idea how to use it, but quickly figured out if she got all angry and stomped the ground, the humans fall down go boom.
Soon, the humans retreated, leaving only a dozen or so Ashbears left alive. Sadly, Casia's parents and her newlywed husband didn't survive the battle.
Casia's newfound talent wasn't very well-received. No one would touch her or allow them to get near them. They were afraid of her stupid magic stone. Casia tried everything. She tried to smash it, but it wouldn't break. She tried throwing it over a cliff, but it came back. She tried burying it several miles away, but still found it under her pillow the next morning. And to make matters worse, the earth moved whenever she got upset, whether she willed it or not. Everyone was afraid of her and her stupid emotions and her stupid gem, including herself.
A few weeks passed, and Casia contemplated returning to the human farmers that had taken her in, but the Chieftan found another way to get rid of her. Her husband had a half brother in that other tribe, he said. Technically, this half brother will have inherited her marriage vows, so she should go find him. Wanting to honor her family by upholding tradition, Casia agreed and left in search of this Malak of the Starfoot Tribe. Maybe she could just hide her gem, and learn to keep it from acting out, while she tried to find a way to get rid of it.
