Pronounced Gauntle-grim
An ancient dwarven city that was once one of the most powerful on the Sword Coast, famous for its mines and the Great Forge. Many years ago, it was weakened in a war with orcs and overrun with Underdark invaders seeking to take advantage of its vulnerability. Recently, it has been reclaimed by King Bruenor Battlehammer II and his allies, who aim to restore it to its former glory.
Located
in a massive mountain, the city spans for several miles in multiple
directions, including down. Tunnels are wide enough for dragons to walk
through and some halls are big enough to contain entire surface
villages. The hundreds of levels can be navigated by twisting
staircases, functioning elevators, and a comprehensive mine cart system.
Due to Gauntlgrym's impressive size, it is nearly impossible to keep
track of individual occupants.
