Location: Gracklstugh
that night, Sarith enters Dibrael and Zaz's room to return the latter's wanted poster
- Sarith asks if Zaz is still planning to leave; the answer is no
- not yet satisfied, Sarith asks if Zaz would leave if he could do it without endangering the party; the answer is yes
- Dibrael and Sarith tell Zaz they should be allowed to decide for themselves if it's worth the risk of keeping him around
Sarith offers to share his own backstory for comparison
- he was thrown in the slave pen for a murder he doesn't remember committing, but has been confirmed by multiple witnesses
- he doesn't know if it's happened before and he just didn't get caught; he also doesn't know if it will happen again
- Dibrael says he still trusts both Sarith and Zaz, and he wants to continue traveling together
- Zaz asks if Junior was present during the murder and Sarith shuts down the questioning of his own past
Dibrael and Sarith insist there must be more to Zaz's story and ask him to elaborate
- Zaz admits that he was always seen as a curse since birth
- there was a windstorm that blew through his village and wiped out much of his clan, and he was blamed for it
- he was given a dragon pendant (a symbol of the clan's worst enemy) as a physical reminder of his crime, then exiled
in the hallway, Mylz overhears Sarith and Zaz's stories before heading back to her room
Dibrael comforts Zaz, suggesting that he was the scapegoat for an accident
- Sarith pushes, questioning if there was any record of the event or other survivors who could shed more light on it
- Zaz starts to get upset, digging his heels in that he is a curse, he must have done it, and even if he didn't - what did it matter? what's done is done
- Dibrael and Sarith agree to Zaz's request that they kick him from the party if he becomes a danger to them
