#34 No Derendoubles

December 8, 2022

Location: Nelrindenvane

Derendil wakes up in a cozy nest of blankets

  • Dibrael is worriedly watching over him, just as Derendil did when Dibrael was in the hospital
  • Derendil sits up and notices the rest of Party around the room, with Zaz popping out of the other end of the same blanket nest

Prince Derendil, just Derendil, formally apologizing for his behavior

  • Dibrael believes he had a reasonable reaction, and Skjorn agrees that he would have done everything the same
  • everyone reassures Derendil that they forgive him, and he starts crying
  • Party tries to cheer him up but he doesn't think he deserves it
  • Mylz reminds him of the time that she severely hurt Skjorn and Sarith
    • Derendil points out that she wasn't in control during that time
    • Jorlan says, "well what about where I've come from and what I've done? I was still accepted."

Derendil is quiet for a while before admitting that he doesn't know where to go from here

  • Dibrael says, "no matter what, you'll always be our Derendil" as Zaz places the crown back on his head
    • Zaz says, "no doubles"
  • Party continues to comfort Derendil, but it only helps somewhat
    • after coming so close, he won't his life back... but he supposes it was never his to begin with

Ront speaks up, saying he also has nowhere to go; perhaps they could go be lost together?

  • Zaz suggests that Derendil stay in contact with his friends and family here
    • Derendil thinks that would not only be weird for them, but disrespectful to the real Derendil
    • Skjorn comments that he'd love to have a clone of himself; everyone knows this
  • Derendil says it's okay if he can't stay in touch with them though, because he has another family he can stay in touch with now

later, Derendil formally apologizes to the royal family for his outburst and asks for permission to commission the royal mage

  • Derendil commissions and then gifts sending stones to stay in touch with Party

once back on the mainland, everyone has a teary goodbye before finally parting ways
