Jida Pilojian

Paper-Cut

Jida is head of the grounds forces at Kalmoro. Earlier in her career, she was taken prisoner during the capture of Ovaya. Civu returned her and good relations fostered based on his treatment of Jida, ultimately earning Dafanai the district. She has two (3?) children.

Her ancestors had been brought to Koyo Isu as slaves--tutors for a wealthy family. When the wave had come and the moon had broken, Koyo Isu had been cut off from the rest of Nebay and the known universe. Mhasrin had been cut off from the emperor who told her she must stop considering ending slavery in Koyo Isu because she could not create imbalance in the empire and he would not allow it to stop elsewhere. And then Koyo Isu had been able to contact their Spiran neighbors who asked what the Koyan society was like. "We try to be a very just society. We don't allow slavery here. The state can hold prisoners and retainers and a few other things, but one private citizen can't just own another person." And then it was true, and Pilojian's family and many others were freed. It was common enough before Moonbreak for bondage to not be generational, but things tightened somewhat after, especially for skilled workers. The idea that Pilojian's family were scholars and freed in the dark ages immediately post Moonbreak was nearly unthinkable. That her foreign family had been able to marry into several Koyan households for her skin to lighten and her to have the name Pilojian was worse. And that she and several of her brothers had abandoned their ancestral knowledge in these times to pursue careers in the military was the worst sin to the Aamidali of Kalmoro.
