Coriates are an elementally-infused race of former Callites that surrendered their life essence to the will of the earth, becoming eternal creatures of living stone. Sane Coriates serve as solitary wardens of the subterranean Quiet Expanse, where they live quiet lives of contemplation and focus of maintaining the fragile harmony of their underground ecosystem. However, many, if not most, Coriates have lost their sanity to time, as their minds could not withstand its ravages despite their immortal bodies. Some have become catatonic, others aggressive, and some have become bestial in nature, acting on the baser instincts of a body that requires no sustenance. Some, more enlightened Coriates have managed to further their transformations, becoming entities closer to the Acrundi.
