Hero the Victor-not to be confused with his older brother Victor the Hero-is the second son of a peasant woman named Henrietta from nowhere special. Much to their mother's surprise (as well as the rest of the village) Hero and his brother were born without a father. When Victor was born the whole village swarmed with excitement, after all nothing like this had ever happened before. Everyone loved Victor as their own kin, giving him gifts and special treatment and nurturing him through his whole childhood. But three years later when yet again Henrietta gave birth to a fatherless child, the villagers responded with outrage. To them, Hero was a scar on the obvious miracle of Victor. One immaculate child was a glorious blessing but two? By simply being born, Hero had soiled the backwater village's excitement.
Henrietta loved both of her children equally and chose their names to show it. She knew her boys would grow up to be men of strength and courage, they had to be. She did her best to shield Hero from the poisoned stares of the villagers, but Hero knew how they felt. The children bullied Hero at first but that didn't last because Hero was born, much like his brother, with the power of gods. Hero's first fight was with a kid named Beedle, a sniveling boy with a mean temper but weak arms. Hero snapped him like a twig in less than a second. Before Beedle's cries had even reached the village, Henrietta had her boys packed up and sent off to Last Hook, where a scholar had written to her from with great interest.
The boys lived in Last Hook with the scholar-a man named Laslo-until Victor reached 19. On that day, Victor ventured out into the world in search of glory (which he found, time after time after time). Laslo had been studying the boys for years before Victor left, but his studies became more cruel when he was left with only Hero. He poked and prodded the boy, broke and reset his bones over and over again until finally Hero put an end to the experiments and Laslo for good. He burned Laslo's house to the ground and set out into the world with one goal: live up to his name.
For the most part, Hero did earn his title. He bested villains and heroes alike to become the strongest man in the world. He saved and destroyed towns in equal measure before finally encountering someone he could not beat, a friendly singing beast named Ricky the Werebear. Ricky tracked Hero after a particularly violent night and devastated him while a band of dancing kobolds looked on. Ricky spared Hero's life and imparted a message to him: "The fear you strike in others is only a reflection of your own. Great acts of treachery are rewarded in kind. The same may not be said of kindness, but isn't it worth a shot?"
Hero took those words and bound himself to them. His life of victory had led to his demise, maybe it was time for some mercy. Now Hero the Victor is in search of a calling, something to make his life worth while and hopefully erase some of the destruction he had caused.
