The Vampires are perhaps the newest peoples to come into being in the realms, and the story of their existence has been a harrowing one. Hailing exclusively from the sealed realm of Terra, the first of the Vampires were created through the use of a powerful artifact and bound to it through a terrible curse, the exact origins of which remains a closely guarded secret to all but their closest confidents even today. Whatever the circumstances surrounding their creation, the results were clear to all who had the misfortune of encountering them; the Vampires were cursed with a terrible and all consuming bloodlust and equipped with a myriad of supernatural tools to turn them into ruthless hunters of humanity. Held in check only by dominion of the first Vampire Lord, Alessandros Scarlatti, over their minds and wills, for years the Vampires lived as little more than leashed animals set loose to cause havoc in the world at the cruel whims of their master. So it may have remained, were it not for Alessandros' "daughter", Christine, who managed to break free of her father's control long enough to slay him and take his dominion over their people for herself. Though she was unable to free her people completely from their cursed bloodlust, she was able to lessen the sway it held over them enough for them to be able to, in some fashion, live amongst normal society
Society
For most of their people's existence, the Vampires went to extreme lengths to maintain the secrecy of their presence, both out of fear that outsiders might discover the true nature of their curse as well as fears over the threat they themselves posed to ordinary humans. Even amongst the magical communities of Terra, very few knew of their existence and those that did were constantly watched by the head of the Scarlatti family. It is only since the lifting of their curse that Vampires have begun to make themselves known to society, free also from the needfully iron grip of their former mistress, Christine Scarlatti, who has bid her family to go out into the world and live as they will now that they have been granted the gift of being able to do so.
