Sylf was born in Verden and raised by a loving family alongside his brothers, Ulfr and Randolph. Life was difficult for them due to being beastkin, but they managed to get by how they could. Born with a special connection to water, Sylf's gift was found out early on by his family, and they kept it secret as long as possible. But one day, a 'family friend' who they thought they could trust had revealed it to the authorities, perhaps hoping for some reward. Sylf was torn away from his home, sent to the enclave to live with the other Elementalists, his own brand on his back. As time went on, Sylf was eventually conscripted into the Verden army not only for his strong magical talents, but for his physical strength as well.
During the rebellion, Sylf had managed to desert the army with the amount of confusion going on, and had enough of fighting. Instead of joining the rebellion, he searched for his family, and once he found them they left for somewhere safe until the fighting had died down. When everything calmed down, he took to mercenary work alongside his brothers to provide for the family.
