When the Heart was discovered as the cause of the foul corruption in the Archivists vault, Buu Kakke realised that many more might suffer if the heart was not purified. Knowing that travel east to the desert was unachievable in the near future, he made the decision to perform the attunement ritual in the simplest way he could think of - by literally cutting out his own heart and inserting the artifact as his body went into its death throes. Long minutes later he was revived with the purified sand of the oasis flowing through his veins.
How did he survive ? Perhaps his stubborn orcish nature gave him the strength to resist even death itself, for a time. It may have been an obscure side effect of the Grunge Shamans restorative magic. In quiet moments, Buu even wondered if it were not the Heart itself that lent him strength in that moment, seeking a new host with which to wander.
