Overview

The Sworn Men of House Tur’Meric are an established and respected fellowship of individuals empowered to act on behalf of the House across Rivensend and the greater Speserij. They are not a secret order, though many of their missions require discretion. Members typically travel low-profile or incognito, revealing their rank only when necessary.

Neither common guards nor nobles, Sworn Men are chosen for their capability, integrity, and initiative. Neither spies nor knights in the traditional sense, the Sworn Men blend the best of both - serving as troubleshooters, emissaries, scouts, investigators, and protectors, responsible for championing House Tur'Meric's values and interests.

Origin

The practice began under Velka Tur'Meric in his youth, when he first envisioned a network of trusted agents who could operate beyond the rigidity of conventional titles and borders. His experiences with loss, travel, and diplomacy shaped the ideals of the Sworn Men: that true service to the realm requires agility, courage, and moral clarity.

The tradition has since evolved into a well-known and respected structure within House Tur'Meric’s hierarchy, though its agents are carefully selected and rarely numerous.

Duties & Privileges

Sworn Men are entrusted with broad authority and autonomy to serve the interests of House Tur’Meric. Their tasks include:

• Investigating threats to trade, security, or diplomacy

• Mediating conflicts or representing the House abroad

• Delivering sensitive messages or gathering intelligence

• Assisting struggling communities and maintaining justice

• Escorting or protecting valuable people or property

Sworn Men are granted a silver medallion, typically worn under clothing, and a series of verbal identifiers known only to other House operatives. They are afforded:

• Shelter, meals, and supplies at any House Tur’Meric barracks or outpost

• Authority to request cooperation from soldiers, agents, and officials

• Access to sensitive knowledge or diplomatic envoys

• The freedom to act with judgment and discretion in the House’s name

However, this is a burden as much as a privilege. Those who abuse their station, bring dishonour, or act without justice are stripped of title and may be hunted by their former comrades.

The Charter of the Sworn Men of House Tur’Meric

The Charter of the Sworn Men of House Tur’Meric

As commissioned by Lord Velka Tur’Meric of Rivensend, Keeper of the Coast and Highlord of Sandhaven

Let it be known, in the halls of stone and soil, among the wind-swept cliffs of Sandpoint and the watchful towers of Rivensend, that those who bear this mark -

the turmeric flower entwined with scroll and do so under oath and bond to House Tur’Meric, and to the ideals it upholds.

The Sworn Men are not bound by blood, nor land, nor rigid title. They are bound by duty, trust, and honour.

Let their purpose be threefold:

• To act with wisdom, seeing clearly through shadow and deception;

• To uphold justice, offering mercy to the worthy and retribution to the cruel;

• And to take action, swift and sure, when the House or the realm calls.

They shall serve as:

• Emissaries, when the word must travel faster than ships or seals;

• Shields, when the weak have none;

• Swords, when peace fails;

• Eyes, where darkness gathers unseen;

• And Hands, where none else may reach.

They are granted:

• Passage and quarter in all holdings of House Tur’Meric;

• The right to requisition what aid is required, within the bounds of prudence and fairness;

• And recognition by word, sigil, and sign, known to those within the circle of trust.

But with this authority comes a burden:

To stray from honour, to exploit the House’s name, to act without conscience - such deeds mark the end of their standing.

A Sworn Man dishonoured is no longer shielded by title or kin.

He shall be cast out, and hunted if need be.

Let this charter stand as testament to Lord Velka’s vision:

That justice must reach where armies cannot march, and aid must come where coin cannot buy it.

To bear the mark is to carry the will of House Tur’Meric,

"Not above the law, but in its service.
Not above the people, but among them."

Swear this not lightly.

For once bound, you are bound for life.
