The Dark Fey refers the Fey folk who inhabit the Great Forest. The name dark refers not to their appearance but in their dark nature. Human settlers on the border of the great forest first came into contact with these beings. Their reputation has grown into legend and their folklore is told as a warning of the dangers outside the walls of First City.
Bedtime stories of children wandering into the forest and being entranced by the Fey are known by all but assumed to be myths by most.
Women have claimed that their children weren't their own and that they have been replaced by some other creature made to look like them.
A poacher hunting the woods killed his companion after claiming he was a dark fey in disguise. The story spread like wildfire but some suspect that it was a lie spread by a merchant lord to ward off poachers from his hunting grounds.
However, those who choose to settle further in the forest have reported bizarre events occurring that keep the myths alive in the minds of those who live outside First City
Woodcutters have the highest attrition rates of all professions in Falanar. Some meet untimely deaths logging accidents. Others are plagued by dreams or dark things deep in the endless woods or simply vanish
Not long ago a woodcutter from a camp on the forest border awoke from his tent and hacked all his fellow woodcutters to bits and stacked their body parts neatly in the timber piles.
Some suspect there is a poison in the trees released when cutting them that drive them mad.
The illness has become common enough to have its own term, 'Woodcutters Madness'.
