The southwestern part of Falanar is overrun by an ancient swamp and theorized to be where most of the primordial life on the continent came from. The Great Swamp may possibly be the oldest thing on Falanar itself, and it's tangled overgrowth and untamed nature support these claims fully.
Rich with life both in plants and animals, as well as the secluded ancestral home of the Lizardfolk, the swamp boasts treacherous mud pits, bogs, and tangles of thick, foreboding jungle that chokes out the very light from it's thick canopies. Hundreds, if not thousands or types of moss grow here, coveted both for their medical uses and toxicity in poisons, and the jungle wood trees are prized for being durable but pliable, making excellent bows, crossbows, and siege equipment.
None of that is of any use to the locals, however, as even the wildlife in the swamp fiercely defends their home. Giant crocodiles including the absolutely massive deinosuchus, bullywugs, shambling mounds, stirges, all the way up to apex predators like hydras, black Dragons all call the swamp theirs and have a knack for ambushing unwitting travelers or over-colonizing Humans who dare to enter. Beyond the usual assortment of swamp dwelling creatures lies the swamp's unique and diverse cast of dinosaurs that make up a large part of the ecosystem. Everything from longnecks to rexes, raptors to trikes, and a dozen other species can be found roaming the marshes, eating from the tall trees, or lurking in the muddy depths below.
The swamp also houses the two largest tribes of Lizardfolk, the Steel Fang Tribe and The Amber Tears as well as dozens of much smaller tribes, adding to the already unfriendly atmosphere.
