Vas was summoned to attend the celebration of the greatest victory of the Rebellion, the destruction of the first Death Star and death of Grand Moff Tarki.
He was never a fan of the old republic and its endless corruption and letting core worlds feast, whilst outer rim worlds starve. The Empire brought some semblance of stability and, in theory, an equal application of justice under the law, even if that justice was often heavy-handed and promoted humans first.
Still, with the destruction of the Death Star, he knew that thousands of people, who he was sure were not evil monsters like Palpatine, Vader or Tarkin, all died. Engineers, cooks, cleaners, comms operators, and everyone else. The Empire was the largest employer in the galaxy, and he is sure that at least 95% of those who joined weren't doing so out of a desire to be evil and oppressive, but to bring order to the galaxy, or even just a steady line of credits each cycle.
He was made aware of the different factions, and immediately took a dislike to the Republicans. They say they want peace, but all they have is a cease-fire, and that is not peace. It is a shame that the non-human faction had sided with them. It was clear to Vas that there would never be peace if either the Republicans or Imperial Remnant were in charge, as the two hated each other and there was so much bad blood.
He sought out a senior member of the Reparationists, a Devaronian fashion designer, and helped him put on his fashion show, after resolving a conflict of scheduling with the fighting promoter.
The meeting with Carlist Rieekan felt like he was trying to manipulate us, and Vas really didn’t like it one bit. If his mind had not already been made up about the Republicans, it sure was at that meeting. They should not hold the balance of power, if we are to have lasting peace in the galaxy.
