Excerpt from a travel briefing by Corbin Vexley, freelance facilitator and longtime resident.

Solace is what you make of it. Some call it a sanctuary, some call it a deathtrap with prettier lighting. Me, I call it home.

The station’s carved into the guts of a mid-sized asteroid, floating just inward of the Varnak Belt. Not exactly scenic, but you’re not here for the views. It’s the last real stop before heading inward to the core worlds, and a decent halfway mark if you’re running between Talereth and the outer routes like Bral. If your ship needs patching, your crew needs a drink, or your cargo needs to not be seen for a while, Solace has options.

Walkways run like veins through the rock, lit by a mix of arcane sconces and salvaged lamps. The whole place hums with magic and metal. Looks messy. Works fine. Nobody owns Solace outright, and that’s the point. No single faction calls the shots. They show up. They sniff around. But the moment they start acting like they run the place, they usually find themselves back on their ship, a little lighter on supplies and a little wiser about station etiquette.

The station splits into two main zones, and you’ll want to know the difference:

  • Upper Station is where the official types gather. Embassies, trade guilds, dignitaries, even a few high-coin tourists. It's arcane-reinforced and well-swept, with secure docks and polished landing pads. Entry takes coin, clearance, or credentials... ideally all three. Air up there smells filtered and faintly smug.
  • Lower Station is the carved-out underbelly of the rock. It’s louder, hotter, and more useful. Spelljammer crews make repairs in shadowed corners, cargo moves quietly, and taverns hum with deals in progress. If you're looking for salvage, work, or gossip, start here.

Solace doesn’t fly anyone’s banner. That’s not a slogan; that’s survival. What keeps it standing is a rule everyone knows: “Keep it clean, or don’t come back.” You can cut a deal, hold a grudge, share a drink with your enemy. But if you start a fight, you’d better finish it somewhere else.

Spacer Tip: Keep your promises and your blade sheathed. Around here, people remember both.
