Sprites

Sprites are semi-sentient blobs of... something. They're not quite code, but they're also not exactly not-code - most technomancers simply think of them as constructs made of Resonance, or maybe as exotic digital pets.

Sprites are purely Digital entities. They can't manifest in the physical world, nor can they directly interact with it, except through the use of devices.

A Sprite has two Conditons:

  • Loaded (Special) - While marked, the sprite is dwelling inside a device or file. It can manipulate its data and operations, to do things like disabling a camera or help focus a gun's smart scope, but it can't interact with the rest of the Matrix while Loaded. Loading a sprite takes an action, and may require a roll if the file is encrypted or the device has a tough firewall.
  • Corrupted (Lasting) - A sprite that takes too much damage, or that the device it's Loaded on is destroyed, becomes corrupted, becoming little more than noise on the waves of Resonance. It'll take a few hours of work to re-compile the sprite into a usable form.

Example Sprites

Aspect: A virtual airtag
Conditions: Loaded (Special), Corrupted (Lasting)
Skills: Move +2
Stunt: Because a Cookie Sprite is like a subtle beacon, I always know the exact location (physical or virtual) of any device or file the Cookie Sprite is Loaded onto.

Fault Sprite

Aspect: An animate blob of bugs and malware
Conditions: Loaded (Special), Corrupted (Lasting)
Skills:  Crack +2, Fight +2

Static Sprite

Aspect: Kshhh-krrrrr I can't hear yo-
Conditions: Loaded (Special), Corrupted (Lasting)
Skills: Crack +2
Stunt: Because the Static Sprite can interfere with any sort of wireless communication, any device it's Loaded onto can't receive or transmit any data wirelessly. Alternatively, any file it's Loaded onto becomes completely unreadable until the sprite leaves.

Shield Sprite

Aspect: Like power armour, only digital
Conditions: Loaded (Special), Corrupted (Lasting)
Skills:
Endure +2
Stunt: Because a Shield Sprite can protect me from harm, I can Load it onto my persona to grant myself a 2-box Firewall Condition like a cyberdeck provides.

Tunnel Sprite

Aspect: Don't ask me where it got that
Conditions: Loaded (Special), Corrupted (Lasting)
Skills: Move +2
Stunt: Because a Tunnel Sprite can (somehow) get anywhere in the Matrix, I can send it into a secure server on its own, without having to cross the firewall myself.
