Contact with humanity was not unknown for Kodzak. Having been slowly pushed to the margins of the world by the growth of their empires, his tribe has maintained diplomatic ties with human settlements beyond their borders in order to facilitate a peaceful status-quo. Yet when political upheaval sperked internecine conflict within the region, an array of new challenges threatened the hitherto stable relations between human and Iruxi. As refugees fled to more hospitable settlements, the travels of many led through their lands.
Tragically, those fleeing also brought with them a measure of the strife that they tried to escape. Armed soldiery sought to prosecute their wars beyond human borders. Banditry was soon a reality of the ancient pathways that crossed Iruxi domains. Even the Iruxi themselves ultimately saw the necessity of acting to protect themselves and their domain. Their efforts proved to be for naught, and Kodzak's peaceful life ended when his tribe's village was sacked and his people were put to the sword.
He swore an oath of vengeance upon their graves. That oath saw him forsake the traditions of the Iruxi and visit reprisal upon his foes, a task that consumed him and brought death and ruin to many trespassers within the swamps of his ancestral home. Still, Revenge is a poison pill for those who seek it. Years went by and the hollowness of his actions were ultimately felt. Rather than accepting that he died with his family, the futility of his fight drove Kodzak to escape the ghost of his former life and find something new in service of the Explorers' Guild. Undoubtedly, his skill with arms and the instincts honed from a life spent on the edge of ruin will serve his new masters well.
