Short summary:
Following the disappearance of a Guild scout near the Monster Den, a group was dispatched to investigate. They found a Haunt angered by some traitor, as well as blood-sucking bunnies, bearing the Curse / Blessing of Qoz, which blinds the creatures but allows them to hear heartbeats and blood. The threat was relatively easily eliminated.

The Monster Den
We were tasked with heading to the Monster Den where a scout had disappeared. The travel was quiet and we got to the Den itself rather quickly. The den is nestled between two rocky hills. There is a 5-foot-wide path that you have to take to get into the den itself. When we got there we found a Haunt located on top of the right-hand hill, overlooking the den entrance. Haunts are usually Ghosts or some other incorporeal Spirit who are looking for revenge or something. My comrade Jirel reported that the Haunt disappeared with the death of the monster; she also mentioned that the Haunt was angry with some traitor. The next job we had was to infiltrate the den itself so Jirel scouted. She found a swarm of blood-sucking crimson bunnies. We dispatched them using oil and Produce Flame.
Next, after resting and healing, we went into the den itself. Here we found the mother of that swarm. She was also easy to dispatch. I used Fear, and Goblin Pox to occupy her while the others filled her with damaging spells, arrows, and wounds. We found a trove of magic items. Some books and other paraphernalia from the Sunless Cities with a dead body next to a pool of a black tar-like substance. There was also a clutch of newly born rabbits from the Sunless Cities, presumably born of the massive one we slew.
General Notes The creatures here are unlike anything I have ever seen. Caution is advised. What I remembered was scarce; these creatures seem to bear the Curse/Blessing of Qoz. This curse/blessing makes the target blind in exchange for giving them the ability to hear heartbeats and blood. These living-vampires seem to be able to empower themselves by drinking the life force of others. |
With the Monster Den dealt with, the Millennium Woods should be relatively safer to explore. With the gigantic bunny crushed, only a few questions remain. What blood-cursed it? How recently did this happen? I am personally not very interested in answering these questions. The monster proved an easy mark, and the problem is dealt with. I am sure that should something more threatening show itself related to this curse, we will be able to deal with it in a similar fashion. Crushing it with impunity. - Broken-ear Jirel |
