Chaos Theory Part 1

Completed
Exploration

Loose threads: Obruk Marebrava hunting mission, Outer sphere anomalies

Participants: Gaelin, Saup Fowl, Ailzynth Nazzass, Damin Saltric

Locations: The Shorepines, Spire Hills

Full report: Damin

The party was made of newly arrived explorers from the Old World that agreed to go explore the The Shorepines and its mysteries.

The trip to the Shorepines went without any issues, until the last night where we made camp two hours away from the forest in a small enclave in the Spire Hills. Around midnight, Gaelin observed during his watch a strange phenomenon. A reverse lightning that came from a pine tree and that dissipated into the above clouds. A few seconds later, when the thunder was heard, Gaelin felt what he described as a tingling sensation. It is then that he noticed at a distance dancing lights going toward the camp. The source of these lights seems to have been a school of strange spectral eels floating in the air that were emitting a low glow themselves, Saup Fowl was able to identify them as Voidworms (see threat report bellow). Thanks to Saup's knowledge we were able to prevent a combat with these creatures, but Ailzynth Nazzass got a small injury that we were able to easily treat.

The next day, we arrived at the Shorepines and tried to investigate the source of the lightning. The forest is strange and we noticed that it was abnormally silent. After a while, Saup noticed a trail made by wagons as well as multiple tracks accompanying them.

Gaelin detected magic from a nearby tree, that we identified as the possible source of the reverse lightning.

The area around the tree was full of suspended drops of water in the air, as if gravity had stopped working, while the tree itself was in what Gaelin think was a temporal loop, regenerating and turning into ash continuously. The magic seemed to be some kind of Transmutation effect, and we were able to confirm that contact with these phenomenon should be prevented at all cost.

We then heard the sound of a tree falling in the distance, and decided to investigate the tracks we found earlier.

At the end of the tracks we found a camp being attacked by 3 Beasts made of barbed tentacles, glaring eyes, and gnashing teeth. We rescued the mercenaries at the camp from the beasts (see threat report). The mercenaries were on a mission for Obruk Marebrava, Obruk explained that they wanted to capture a beast located in the Shorepines. He was able to explain that the Shorepines was affected by Outer Sphere anomalies and that the Shorepines was getting weirder lately. Considering the current casualties, it was decided that we should escort Obruk and his mercenaries back to First Landing.

Battle Reports:

Threat Report: Voidworms

Threat level: Low

Description: These floating spectral eels seems to be interested by things on the Material Plane, especially active creatures and phenomena. They emit very faint light and seem to be accompanied sometimes by dancing lights. They are not hostile, just curious. They seems to move in large groups.

How to deal with: Since these creatures are not hostile, it is recommended not to attack them. They can show defensive reflexes if they sense something strange, but do not respond with violence. We got rid of the group we encountered by stopping our fire and starting another one away from camp.

Threat Report: Unknown Creatures (Chaos Beasts)

Threat level: Medium

Description: Balls of barbed tentacles, teeth. They try to grab and eat their enemies. Be careful when dealing with them, it seems there might be a core that if you hit will turn off gravity for a few seconds. They seemed to have split from a bigger beast.
