Loose Threads: Undead menace to Roanokae, Halfling Undead

Locations: Roanokae Camp

Extract from Damin Saltric's report

The mission was supposed to be straightforward, with no obvious threats. It was the perfect occasion to learn more about the Horde and the conflict. A simple escort of food and different supplies to the refugees of the Roanokae Camp as well as two letter deliveries.

The travel to the Elemental Portal Shrine was uneventful and the portal was already set to go to Roanokae. Once we arrived there, we realized that our group was very ill equipped to interact with the refugees, since none of us knew the Escapee's Tongue. Hopefully for us, one of the Gnolls we met on the other side pointed us to a direction when we tried to ask for Ajan.

The communication was possible with Ajan thanks to Taro who knew Draconic. Our first letter was delivered, and Ajan told us the best way to distribute the supplies to the whole camp was to go to their community space that is also being used for people to eat together.

Once we arrived there, we were able to start distributing things to the refugees after making them understand that they did not have to pay anything for the supplies. They were quick to organize and distribute everything in an orderly manner. At the community space, we were able to meet Rip a young Unknown and one of the recipient of the second letter we had to deliver. His mother, Oukra, was away on a hunting trip, and he started to worry about her at sundown after she failed to return at her usual hour.

The group decided to go after her toward the big hand on the hill southwest of the camp. After a few hours, we were on her track thanks to Tarah Nirimaya, but we heard strange sounds in the Darkness. Zombies and other Unknown were roaming on the hill.

We fought against that first group with ease, most of them were Zombies with pustules full of acid that exploded on contact, but two strange creatures were with them, bones exposed, running on their 4 limbs and very fast.

Once we disposed of that group, we picked up the pace afraid that Oukra was in danger. A few minutes later, we found her, injured and hiding, while the Undead were roaming all around. After healing her, we used the hunting traps she had to secure a ruin before fighting waves after waves of Undead.

After a long fight, a single Undead ran away alive from our group, after saying in Unknown that he will remember us and that his mistress will take revenge. The opening we had just created was probably not for long, and Oukra was able to lead us back to Roanokae without fighting any Undead, even if we heard a lot of them along the way.

Battle Reports:

Threat Report: Zombies

Threat level: low

Description: Slow creatures that do not have any semblance of intelligence. They sometime show strange mutations like pustules full of acid or a raveonous taste for live flesh.

How to deal with: Use their lack of intelligence and their slow speed against them. They will run into traps, and won't be able to follow you if you keep your distance.

Threat Report: Unknown Undead - nicknamed Hunters

Threat Level: low to medium

Description: Strange creatures that can be very fast by running on their four limbs. Some have shown language and intelligence, and like Zombies they can have different mutation.

Threat Report: Unknown Undead - nicknamed Seawater Zombie

Threat Level: Medium

Description: It looked like another Zombie, but it was heavily armored and smelled of salt, as if it was coming from the sea. That odor was so powerful that the faint of heart would have a hard time staying close to it.

Threat Report: Unknown Undead - nicknamed Priest Zombie

Threat Level: ?

Description: That creature was quickly taken down, and not a lot is known about it. It seems to have carried some kind of object that exploded on its death, dealing a wave of damage to everyone around.
