Valdri Seiorsdottir

Player Character

Time in the Guild

Valdri has enjoyed her time in the new world so far. Work is plentiful, and so are the drinks and gambling she can get into at the Pug. Yet something has been missing. Always a tug at her, a longing, a wanderlust to leave and find somewhere else where she could be...what...? Useful? Needed? Wanted? What was stopping her from pursing meaningful work? Why did she need to be needed? And why, if she had ostensibly saved people and killed monsters did it feel like she was spinning her wheels?

Despite joining the First Landing Trading Company, she still didn't feel connected, her largely fictitious role not inspiring much in the way of deep, personal meaning.
So she took some time. She rebuilt herself from the ground up, leaving to train, to grow, no longer content to be a "talker" but now a doer. She outfitted her shield with a boss, toughened her muscles, and tested herself against her companions, along with members of the fighters guild, then swore an oath to herself...that she would pursue justice, and make the world around her better, despite what means others would use.

Now she's invested, more than before, with newfound fire in her guts and a desire to make more friends in the guild. Hopefully those who see this land similarly.

Backstory

Alia Volarus was renowned amongst the people of the north. Strong, wise, peacemaker, warrior, defender. She was a shieldmaiden who stood tall and proud, led her people well, and was feared and respected by many. Many in her village whispered about who would be strong enough to take her hand, if any. None expected the man who did.

Barnabas Grimm was an outsider and wanderer. He wasn’t a viking. He wasn’t a sailor. He wasn’t even seen as a warrior. He was a cunning man, with a silver tongue and many ingenious inventions. So when Alia One-Eye invited him to join her council, many were surprised. When she invited him to warm her bed, more were suspicious. And when Valdri Seiorsdottir was born several months after Barnabas quit town, many of her tribe were scandalized.

Valdri grew up in a tribe where she had to work to survive. Days were long and hard. Hunting, gathering, crafting, arguing, and fighting were all part of her life from a young age, and it hardened her. She had asked about her father. Who he was, and where he had gone, but all her mother told her was that he had been a man of wanderlust, never at home in one place. The people of the town had less flattering things to say.

So Valdri stopped asking, but she never stopped wondering. She struggled year after year for her place in the tribe, but found that she could never quite compete. She was strong, but not made for wrestling. She was hardy, but always tired faster than her kin. She fought hard, and never gave up, but it was clear to many that the defiant and quick talking girl would never find her place.

So her mother made a choice. She revealed something to her firebrand daughter that she’d been holding back for a long time; a beautiful pistol, named for the weapon of a trickster god, and crafted by her father himself. Alia told her where to seek out her father, and with a defiant smirk Valdri made her way to the frontiers of Alkenstar and beyond.

The man she found both more and less than her lofty imagination had produced. Brave at times, clever always, with a mouth that got him in more trouble than it solved. He taught her about a different world, one without honor, where the only rule was to lose. They gambled, hunted bounties, and did time as sheriff and deputy…but when they fell on the wrong side of some rustlers, her father revealed who he truly was and skipped town instead of fight for justice. Valdri didn’t back down, but she was overmatched, and though she took down some goons, they took her eye and told her to leave the territory.

She did, and decided the new world might be the last frontier that she might make a difference.
