The Tale of Arthur
Come gather 'round yonder, come hear of my song
Of my years spent wandering the world's wonders long
Fighting the good fight, for the weak from the strong
From an old man, weary and waning
Hear tell of my deeds, of acts right and wrong
For some lives are always worth saving.
I was born humble, a child of the land
I took to my singing where the sea meets the sand
I lived life indulgent, endless wealth I'd demand
To buy comforts I found myself craving
And soon I fell selfish, with thugs I did stand
But some lives are always worth saving.
We plundered and thieved and extorted the meek
We squandered our gains as to feast every week
We heard of a commune, whose wealth we did seek
Captain spoke of skulls needing caving.
Against the taking of lives I felt I should speak
For some lives are always worth saving.
I fled in the dark, and came fast to the town
Where wandering saviours had gathered around
I spoke of the threat, and how it could be downed
I felt my conscience was no longer breaking
When the violence came calling, I stood tall and proud
For some lives are always worth saving.
I found a mentor, and I changed my way
I swore holy oaths to Iomedae
My greed and my shame aside I did lay
But good things were soon to be fading…
Those remaining dark souls sought us out to slay
Not all lives are fated for saving.
My comrades in arms, we would heed any call
A simple incursion, it would not need us all
And the trap laid unflinching rained their blood like a squall
But their lives were not cheap for the taking
Two knights won the fight, but five still did fall
My mentor did not receive saving…
We gathered our strength, and raised up our blades
The bandits all died like rats in a cage
But our duties performed; apart we would stay
Our vengeance was a shame most staining
So I buried my past, and set out to fresh stage
For some lives are always worth saving.
