Bard's Unruly Neighbors

Completada
Extermination

Starring: Bonabo Nesty, Buddy Bones, Deanne, Jillybeth, Nasha

Location: Desert of RydessThe Great Library

Summary: After our group met on the outskirts of First Landing, we set out for the Great Library. While there were possibly alternative routes, we chose to sneak through the lands of the The Watchers' Tribe, despite knowing that their kobold members were refusing entrance to First Landing residents. Along the way, we saved a doe caught in a kobold trap and had to scare off a Giant Vulture wanting to make a meal of it. As we moved past the Watchers Tribe Village, a group of kobolds notice our prints and attempted to track us, but we were able to give them the slip.

After crossing a snake-filled river, we finally made it to the Great Library and met with our hirer, the Skeleton Bard. The bard explained how he retrieved the corpse of a powerful mage, Tarinyon, and had created an evil undead which he could not control, which is why he wished us to kill it. Accepting the morally confusing quest, we took a magical lift and followed a path of floating rocks until we were attacked by malfunctioning aeons, who we summarily destroyed. Continuing on, we made it to a temple inside the library that housed Tarinyon.

Inside, we found countless undead that had already been slain by our target, each one of them covered in a crystal substance we had trouble identifying. We began to explore the temple and discovered many things, including a message written in Necril that harmed those that read it, an undead griffon that had been killed by a crystal spear (which we quickly took), a pillar-like room filled with a seemingly endless supply of flying skeletons that forced us to flee, an annoying dust mephit that wouldn't leave us alone, and we accidentally triggered a vacuum trap that sucked all of the air out of the room which we narrowly escaped (but did thankfully kill the mephit).

At the top of the temple, we met an undead bugbear cleric who worshipped the elemental lord Hshurha. After some conversing, the bugbear agreed to cast spells to buff our party for the fight ahead. We jumped into a pit and finally met Tarinyon, a special type of undead known as a Fext. It was a tough fight but, working together, we were able to put down the special undead using his own crystals against him. With our quest complete, the Bard rewarded us and we were on our way home.

Loose Threads: why was the bard experimenting with this thing? What was the priest doing in the floating tower? Why there were so many aeons there?
