"Finally, you spot something the breaks the continuity; some material clearer than the sand around it. A chunk of wall perhaps? A column? A shape too artificial to be a simple rock sculpted by the wind. And it's not the only one. You spot a valley between dunes that houses a collection of these structures, of carved marble or white clay. They populate a considerable area. You see mostly domes, roofs, and the apex of a few towers or spires, all crumbled or inclined beyond their original design. Whatever once was here, it's buried deep underground."
"You all walk the sands between these crumbled remains, and start forming a mental image of what once was. The desert has flattened the verticality of what in ancient times was erected as several towers, aimed at the sky, with some particular purpose or merely artistic choice. The marble or clay is engraved geometric shapes. You only spot a handful, more complex designs, like suns and stars; and a collection of incomprehensible cuneiform language. Meaning lost after who knows how much time of erosion."
