Full Report
I don't often write reports, but it seems I can't dodge paperwork forever.
The situation started with a seemingly casual invitation for a boat trip. Reiko had received the offer from Lord Asculith, with whom she has apparently been keeping regular contact. The offer for a boat trip did come with the catch to help out with some business the dryad lord considered troublesome. Hoping for some excitement, Reiko was joined by Ari, Hecret, and myself.
After teleporting over (and nearly getting shot), Asculith showed us his boat, complete with characterful crew. We quickly departed for the thusfar undiscovered city of Cynosure. How it went unnoticed I have no clue, seeing as there is a bright light smack-dab in the middle of it, but that's irrelevant. Travel was mostly uneventful, aside from annoying wildlife. The city itself is interesting, half of it is sunk below the waterline and occupied by marine or amphibious citizens.
We would meet with some of the more important people in Cynosure the next day for Asculith, so the group split up to learn more about the city. From what I heard, Reiko, Ari, and Hecret mostly went around various shops owned by eccentric kobolds and fey tailors.
I went looking for some new runes to put on my bow, but the route was rather circuitous. Fake elves selling diving gear, oceanid bards shot by jilted lovers haranguing me, a sunken ship full of ghosts, until finally finding the runesmith Kǂalvis past an underwater cliffedge. After the rather arduous shopping trip, the diving gear also turned out to be some sort of semi-cursed tanuki family? I recommend against anyone buying from merchants that look like elves in Cynosure, they might sell you their brother.
The next day we went to meet with Sjel, who called in Asculith to help her. Apparently a large amount of priceless historical artifacts were being stolen in recent months. She wanted us to find the thief. Sjel suspected an island-like structure that had recently risen from the nearby seafloor with suspicious timing might be the hideout of the culprit.
Suspecting an inside job rather than improbably effective infiltration, the party minus Ari went on examine all the evidence left in the wake of the thefts while Ari did dragon things. While we were on-site, a new theft occured. An item in the care of three researchers was stolen while they were dazed by mildly poisoned tea. Examining the scene further, we located a hidden room in the center of Cynosure's tower of glass containing an elvish teleportation device (gwyddfa). This startled one of the researchers, Petryk. He proceeded to lock himself in the room while refusing to be helped out.
WIth nothing better to do, the investigation proceeded to the aforementioned island, where we somehow found Petryk again after being inconvenienced by heavy magical storms. After a short but intense fight with Petryk and his crystal minions, and Hecret blasting the poor guy into pieces, we found some insight into his motivations for stealing the items. Something about chronic illness and mysterious otherworldly contacts promising salvation. The usual.
