Following up on the Hog Hag and other evils, we found a pit full of devils offering bargains for power. We did not align with them, but ended up performing a minor task before taking our leave.

Quest Report: Devil’s pit
I was archiving some reports for Toma when I ran across report 1 and report 2. They were linked and seemed to be unresolved. Checking in with the scout office I was informed that people in the area had been experiencing issues, and that it seemed like some fiendish creatures had set up operations in the area. I figured a quick information gathering expedition would be nice, though going without Stan would be…frustrating, but he was about to head out on a quest, so it would be a good time.
As we approached the location if the pit, we found a devil that tried to cajole us into signing a contract. We refused. Venturing further we were accosted by a voice declaring us forfeit, and to be attacked on sight. Them a rock trap was sprung. Fortunately I had already cast enlarge, and using my fortress shield was able to stop the rock slide in its place with Hakuto’s timely help.
Unfortunately the others had stumbled into a trap, and Hakuto and I rushed to help.
Dretal was marvelous, landing a piercing blow on the infernal machine summoned to fight us, while Yim and Hakuto took dangerous amounts of damage and the creatures sickened Scrambles, but Bacon was quite the gallant hero. Everyone fought well…but in the end it was not enough. Yim was at death’s door, and instead of let them hurt him I did something…possibly stupid. I made a pact with them. Temporary, that the two remaining winged devils would duel with me alone, and if they won, they we would sign, but otherwise they would leave my allies unharmed.
I won.
Yim had words for me, as did Hakuto. They were right to.
After this we discovered some Imps that seemed to be working in shifts, and a latrine. Finally we made our way to the bottom of the pit, where we found the Phistophilus Devil, or contract devil. Supposedly they are unable to lie, but we were careful nonetheless…the best liars use as much fact as they can after all.
Despite much debate, we reached only an impasse. They offered us knowledge, and we were all tempted, but there was a requirement to sign paperwork that…frankly none of us trusted.
Well, in order to find some use for us they sent us to destroy some Goblinoids near Black Beach that had been causing them trouble, but of course it turned out to be a trap of sorts.
After killing the assailants who ambushed us, a devil appeared to finalize the contract to destroy the goblinoids. Almost all of us refused to the signature. But…if any would seek forbidden or obscure knowledge or spells, it seems that there is more to be had from these devils. Hopefully they leave the people around them alone.
