Principium Magi
Overview
This is a Mage: The Ascension (20th Anniversary/5th Edition) Chronicle which based in London in the United Kingdom centred around a group of Mages who are residents of the city itself.
The players are brought together to find an errant apprentice who managed to lose herself in the East End. As always things never appear as easy as the players first thought as the apprentice has done a very good job of losing themselves.
Setting
The chronicle is set in London a city which is in flux with the recent events both on Tellurian and beyond. London is now free of any Vampires after the Second Inquisition cleared London of them from the city as of 2012 CE. On top of this the Avatar Storm has passed so once again travelling through the Gauntlet has become easier again to travel through again.
With the disappearance of the Vampires has left a power vacuum in the corridors of power in Westminster and beyond which still has to be filled by anyone brave enough to take up the mantle. The obvious candidates include the Technocratic Union who could strengthen in the city of their creation. Though there are those within the Second Inquisition itself who want to strengthen their hold on London hence the United Kingdom itself.
The weakening of the Avatar Storm has meant those Mages on the Tellurian who were cut off from their masters in the Umbra and Horizon Realms now have access to them now. But those trapped in the Umbra on both sides the Traditions and Technocracy have found things and dynamics on the Earth have changed not always for the better. They are trying to rebuild their damaged power structures on Earth. But those who were trapped on the Earth during the Avatar Storm are resentful of being told what to do as they have enjoyed their freedom from their masters during the storm. This is true for both the Technocratic Union and Traditions.
All this has raised the tensions between the Traditions and Technocratic Union again in London each trying to restamp their mark on London in the power vacuum. All further hindered by tensions and resentment between those who ware trapped either side of the Avatar Storm. Those who were trapped on Earth built new power structures without their masters while those masters freed by the end of the Avatar Storm what to stamp their authority back on those who were trapped.
So the players are thrown into this heady mix trying to find this missing Apprentice.
Why London?
It is a city which has a long, eventful and very rich history and once it was the centre of an Empire which spanned the globe so it good place for the players to flourish and even grow.
Add to this the fact with the removal of the Vampires and return of the Masters plus the fact it is the spiritual home of Technocratic Union itself, it is good place for players to take advantage of the conflicts within the city to carve out a nice niche for themselves, if they are brave enough to do so.
But now the spectre of the Second Inquisition hangs over the city who are basking in their successes in the city and the question among the other supernatural beings who are they going to hunt next?
Finally London is such a cosmopolitan city it has a very rich culture which now spans the world all brought in by immigrants from all over the world most looking for better life in the city. It has become a melting pot of people, cultures and even myths from all over the world both within the mortal and supernatural worlds.
In conclusion London is a rich, dynamic and full of enough mysteries to give the players more than enough to explore.
