Shinjo Yoshifijsa

Clan Leader in Ryoko Owari

SHIGEKO'S DOSSIER: Yoshifusa is the leader of Ryoko Owari's Unicorn Clan in name only. He is an old man; the only time he is seen outside the Shinjo estate is when he attends services at the Temple of the Sun Goddess. Despite this, he has not retired from his position as family head, nor as a merchant patron.

The story is that he went on a merchant caravan as a young man and earned great glory protecting the Unicorn trade interests from foreign attackers. Having made his fortune in this way he retired to Ryoko Owari, where he has spent the remainder of his long life. At one time an influential merchant patron, his influence has waned as he has aged. Bayushi Korechika has succeeded in taking control of one of Yoshifusa's most prosperous stables, along with several less important merchant concerns. At his advanced age, there is little the Unicorn can do about it.

Backstory:

Shinjo Yoshifusa was once a bold and capable samurai, gaining great glory in his youth for his role in protecting Unicorn trade interests on dangerous foreign journeys. Having earned a fortune, he retired to Ryoko Owari and became a powerful merchant patron, overseeing several lucrative trade ventures. However, with age came frailty, and now Yoshifusa is an old man who rarely leaves his estate, except to attend religious services at the Temple of the Sun Goddess.

Despite his advanced age, Yoshifusa has not formally retired as the head of the Unicorn Clan in Ryoko Owari, though his leadership is largely symbolic at this point. His influence has waned as rivals such as Bayushi Korechika have taken control of some of his former holdings. Yoshifusa's once-great power has diminished, and while there is little he can do to reclaim his lost enterprises, he remains respected by the Unicorn Clan, even if he is no longer an active participant in its affairs.
