The terlopenooru refers to a family of both saltwater and freshwater species of giant crabs. Up to three metres long and with razor sharp claws, the terloperoonu have more than enough to defend themselves. However, their behaviour is very peaceful, even when disturbed by human swimmers. Notably, before a storm, they seem to become agitated and may attack vessels on the surface of the water.
