The huntsman spider, representing the family Sparassidae, is a fairly large Oceanykan arachnid, at around 15cm wide with its legs spread. It is highly intelligent and carries a powerful bite, though it rarely poses a threat to humans. Quite the contrary, huntsman spiders are normally friendly towards human beings and usually cohabitate with them. Humans protect the spiders from large predators, while the small critters eat any invaders that may enter their home. For this purpose, huntsmen are usually kept as house pets much the same way as cats are. This truce seems to extend to Whittmann's Jumping Spider, which the Huntsman seems to ignore, even if they live relatively close.

Genetic variety within the huntsman family is quite large. Some species are very social and gather in colonies of up to 300 individuals, though most are solitary, as spiders tend to be. Others are adapted to a specific ecosystem or ecological niche. However, the characteristics described earlier tend to describe most species of huntsman spider, and none of them have venom that is lethal to humans.
