Oceanyka is notoriously chaotic, disorganised and rather poor. However it has been noted that there is an relatively good standardisation in munitions, weaponry, engines, parts, etc. This is a result of the economic freedom in Oceanyka coupled with the lack of monopolies, the invisible hand of the free market. A necessity since having hundreds of types of ammunition would spell disaster for everyone involved, many armies still forage on campaign. The tendency to use just similar and intertwined pieces of equipment makes it easier to rearm, repair and replace lost parts. Therefore, the Oceanykan technology sector mostly focuses on improving already existing equipment further and further. This ends up with bizarre selections of equipment like Weltkrieg-era destroyers with Soviet anti ship missiles, or brodie helmets on objectively modern infantry. Change towards completely new designs is possible (as was the case with the AK-47 and AKM rifles) but the new product must be superior enough to a similar highly upgraded competitor to justify abandoning a heavily standardised and beloved piece.
