The Type 38 was Japan's standard issue bolt-action rifle, chambered in 6.5x50mm Arisaka, from 1905 until the introduction of the Type 99. During the Pacific War, the vast majority of Type 38 rifles had their buttstocks and barrels cut down to carbine length; the perfect weapon for paratroopers, drivers, artillerymen, and other such roles which required a shorter, lighter weapon.
