The Czech ZB vz. 26, which gave birth to the iconic Bren machinegun, had offspring in the far east; the Type 99 was Japan's best light machinegun during the entire Pacific War. It is chambered in the powerful 7.7x58mm Arisaka cartridge. It is very similar to all other Bren-like designs in performance, though the Type 99 did usually come with a long bayonet.
